The challenge

A new ICB, a stretched system workforce, and no shared planning method

NHS Sussex ICB and Sussex Health and Care Partnership needed to develop a system-level workforce view across their footprint - covering acute, mental health, community, ambulance and primary care providers. As with most systems in formation, no single provider held the whole picture, and the ICS did not yet have an established system workforce planning method or the internal function to hold it.

Our response

System workforce view - and a system workforce planning method

We supported Sussex with a system-level workforce view covering primary care and wider provider workforce, alongside development of a system workforce planning method the ICB could hold internally. The programme combined analytical work with capability development, so the deliverable was not a one-off system plan but a working system planning function.
