SERVICE - Value-based care & outcomes

Services designed around what actually matters to the people using them

Value-based care is a discipline for designing and paying for services around the outcomes that matter to patients - not the activity that fills a schedule. Done properly it reshapes commissioning, pathway design and clinical practice. We help systems make it real.

What we do

What we do

  • Outcome framework design - building clinically meaningful, patient-relevant outcome frameworks for services and populations.
  • Value-based commissioning - commissioning models and contracts that reward outcomes rather than activity.
  • PROMs and PREMs strategy - practical implementation of patient-reported outcome and experience measures that clinicians will actually use.
  • Pathway redesign for value - clinical pathway redesign that starts from outcomes and works back to activity, workforce and cost.
  • Population budgets and allocative efficiency - advice on population-level budget allocation between conditions, cohorts and stages of the pathway.
  • Board and clinical leadership engagement - helping clinical and executive teams understand and lead this shift.
How we work

How we work

Value-based work fails when it becomes an academic exercise. Ours is grounded in the specific clinical services, workforce constraints and financial reality of the organisation we are working with.

We work with clinicians, not around them. Real outcome frameworks are built with clinical leaders - not imposed on them by consultants who have not sat in a clinic.

We take the international evidence seriously without pretending it translates directly. What worked in a specific US or European context needs careful adaptation for NHS conditions.

What to expect

What you can expect from us

  • A senior lead with real clinical or commissioning grounding, working alongside your clinical leaders.
  • Outcome measures that pass clinical scrutiny and executive team stress-tests.
  • A route from outcome design through to contracting, pathway redesign or clinical practice change - not just a framework on a page.
  • Honesty about which value-based approaches are ready for NHS use and which are still evolving.
Engagements

Typical engagements

  • An outcome framework for a specific clinical service in a large acute trust.
  • A value-based commissioning pilot for a place-based partnership.
  • A PROMs strategy for a specialty service, from selection through to clinical adoption.
  • Board development on value-based care for a provider or ICB.
