ABOUT

Senior workforce thinkers, working at the sharp end of health and care change

We are a specialist consultancy built around one belief: that almost every problem in health and care eventually becomes a workforce problem - and almost every solution depends on getting the workforce right.

Our purpose

Why we exist

Health and care services in the UK are in the middle of the most significant workforce transition in their history. Demand is rising, expectations are changing, and the shape of the workforce that delivered yesterday's services will not deliver tomorrow's.

Health Dynamics exists to help organisations navigate that transition - with rigour, realism and a relentless focus on what will actually work on the ground.

Our values

What we stand for

Five values, held closely enough to be checkable in every engagement.

Senior by default

The people in the room with you have done the work themselves. No graduate-fronted engagements, no bait-and-switch on team.

Honest about what we see

Clients hire us for our perspective, not our diplomacy. We tell you what we see, even when it is uncomfortable.

Practical to a fault

Strategy that cannot be delivered is not a strategy. Every recommendation we make is one we can imagine implementing on a Monday morning.

Generous with what we know

We share frameworks, tools and thinking freely - through the Academy, through our Health & Social Care Communities, and directly with the people we work with.

Anchored in the public good

We are proud to work for services that matter. Public value shapes our choices about who we work with and how.

Our story

How we got here

Health Dynamics was founded in 2010 by Alison Alsbury, who has spent her career working at the intersection of workforce, strategy and operations in the NHS and wider public services. Over the years the team has supported organisations representing a combined workforce of more than half a million staff.

Array

We are also deliberately small. Our core team is supported by a carefully curated associate network of senior consultants, clinicians and former system leaders, so each piece of work is staffed by people who have done the job before, not by graduates following a deck.

How we work

Sized to the problem, not to a methodology

We do not believe in pre-packaged methodologies. We believe in matching the right team and the right approach to the specific problem in front of us.

Our engagements range from short diagnostic pieces - a board-ready review of a specific workforce question - through to multi-year transformation programmes covering whole services or systems. The engagement is sized to the problem, not to a fixed methodology.

Every engagement is designed with a disciplined exit and an evidenced capability uplift, so the organisation is stronger when we leave than when we arrived.

What we do

Three connected practice areas

We work across three practice areas - population health, workforce, and transformation. Some clients engage us for a single, contained piece of work in one of them. Others ask us to lead multi-year programmes that draw on all three. We are deliberately built to do both well.

Each practice is led by a senior practitioner. Most of our best engagements pull two or three together - a workforce plan grounded in population insight, or a transformation programme with organisational development woven through from day one.
