SERVICE - Patient experience & involvement

Meaningful patient, community and public involvement - done properly

Patient involvement is often the weakest strand of a health strategy. It shouldn't be. We help systems build patient experience, involvement and public engagement work that shifts real decisions - delivered in partnership with the UK's most respected specialists in the field.

What we do

What we do

  • Patient experience strategy - organisation- or system-wide strategies for how experience data is captured, understood and acted on.
  • Patient and public involvement - meaningful involvement of patients and communities in strategy, service design and transformation.
  • Statutory consultation - support for the formal consultation processes required for major service change, delivered through our partner Olovus.
  • Community engagement in inequalities work - engagement with communities affected by health inequalities, done in a way they trust.
  • Co-production - services and programmes co-produced with the people who use them - a discipline, not a slogan.
  • Experience of care measurement - designing and interpreting experience measures that clinicians and boards actually engage with.
How we work

How we work

We rarely deliver large-volume engagement work in-house - it is a specialism of its own, and one where Olovus is one of the most respected UK teams. Where a piece of work needs their capability, we bring them in openly, and clients get workforce and population expertise from us plus engagement from them under a single accountable relationship.

We are clear-eyed about what involvement can and cannot do. Genuine co-production shifts outcomes; performative involvement damages trust. We help clients get the difference right.

We work carefully with communities most affected by inequality - often the ones NHS engagement reaches least well.

What to expect

What you can expect from us

  • A senior lead with real experience of NHS involvement and consultation work.
  • Practical approaches that respect the statutory framework and the human reality of the community you are engaging with.
  • Analysis and reporting that boards can genuinely learn from, not just record.
  • A joined-up route between involvement work and the strategy or service change it is meant to inform.
Engagements

Typical engagements

  • A patient experience strategy for a mental health trust.
  • Statutory public consultation on a major service reconfiguration, delivered with Olovus.
  • Community engagement in a health inequalities strategy for a place-based partnership.
  • Co-production support for a specific pathway redesign.
